God never promised us it would be easy. He never promised us that the Christian life would be a walk in the park. He never promised us it would be a smooth walk…but He did promise us we’d never be alone. We all face seasons of joy, seasons of healing, and seasons of difficulty. Worship music is one way we can seek God during those hard seasons. Today I’m sharing 6 worship songs for a hard season.
Whether you’re facing divorce, mental health issues, grief, loss of a job, money issues, cancer, etc. God promises us we will never walk those hard seasons alone. So if you are in the midst of a hard season right now, I pray that these songs might give you some hope and be a reminder that you don’t walk alone.
6 worship songs for a hard season
You’re Still Moving by Crossings Venue Worship
This song is from a local church here in Oklahoma and is sung by one of my favorite worship leaders here – Lael Ewing. I always love shouting out local groups when I can and when I heard this song I knew it would be perfect for this post. One of the biggest reminders that I often need in hard or barren seasons is the fact that God is in fact still moving and working. The song is beautiful, raw, and real…it says the things we often think as Christians but don’t want to admit. Sometimes we question if God is even listening to us. But He is still moving, still listening, and still working. We just need to trust.
Listen Here
You’re still moving, In the barren land
You’re Still Moving
You’re still moving, Even when I cannot stand
Every season I go through,
I’m not alone when I’m with You
You’re moving, You’re still moving
Same God by Elevation Worship
It is easy to read the Bible and see these miracles that Jesus performed and think that believing back then would have been easier. Of course, after seeing Jesus calm the storm or walk on water we would easily believe that He is with us in those storms. But guess what friends? We serve the same God. The same God that fed the 5000 and healed the blind man is the same God that can heal us and fix our brokenness. I find such peace in that, do you?
Listen Here
You moved in power then, God, move in power now
Same god
You are the same God, You are the same God
Never Leave by Red Rocks Worship
I have been listening to this song for a few years. I specifically remember listening to it while my mom was in the ICU and I was stuck at home because of limits in the hospital. This song was an anthem because we were praying for victory over her sickness. The song was my prayer – that God would break through the trials of that hard season. And He did. It might not have been in my timing but in His timing, we made it through that trial.
Listen Here
You are here, right now
never leave
Victory is breaking out
Right here, right now
You’re breaking chains that hold me down
Faithful Now by Vertical Worship
Vertical Worship has been another favorite for years and this song was always one of my favorites. I still find myself clinging to it in hard seasons. It is just a great reminder of God and His unending faithfulness. He was there for you in the valleys & the hills. The dry seasons and the fruitful seasons. He was faithful then and He’ll be faithful now.
Listen Here
You make mountains move
Faithful now
You make giants fall
You use songs of praise
To shake prison walls
I will speak to my fear, I will preach to my doubt
You were faithful then, You’ll be faithful now
Fighting for Me by Riley Clemons
One important reminder I need in the hard season is that even when I can’t fight…God is fighting for me. Even when those seasons that make us question our faith, God is right there fighting for us. This song, especially the piano version, is both uplifting and beautiful. I have listened to this song on repeat during many trials I have faced over the last few years. It never fails to remind me of God’s goodness.
Listen Here
You will never stop fighting for me
Fighting for me
When I can’t fight for myself
Every word is a promise You keep
‘Cause You love me like nobody else
You stand up for me in the darkest night
When my faith is weak You’re still by my side
You will never stop fighting for me
My God Can by Katy Nichole
I found this more recently but I still have found such comfort in the words. Our human nature is to try and do everything on our own – in our strength. I think that is why we find hard seasons so difficult because we want to be able to fix everything but we are nothing compared to God. He can make our giants fall in an instance…we need to stand in the confidence that He is there and able to help us in times of need and heart ache.
Listen Here
I might not be able to part the waters,
My God Can
might not be able to calm the storms
Might not be able to make my giants fall,
but good thing I’m not alone
‘Cause there is a power that is greater,
so I’m not afraid of what’s ahead
I’m standing in the confidence that even though I can’t
My God can
